Well, the unwrapping of gifts is over, pictures have been taken, hugs given; the boys are strutting proudly all over the house with their swords making sh-shing! noises, declaring their knighthood and grinning to beat the band; and food preparations are still underway which means plenty of dishes.
So, our celebration of Christmas is at an end. That is, our nationalized holiday is over.
For Christians, who live with the purpose of the birth of Immanuel always in the hearts whether they realize it or not, the celebration has scarcely begun!
Imagine living an eternal ‘Christmas’, worshipping and celebrating the One who came from Highest Heaven to connect God and man once again in that lost unity- the One who gave us everything so we can give Him what He created us to give, worship, adoration, love, service… if any of these things can conceivably be disconnected from one another.
I don’t suppose there is much to be said about Christmas that hasn’t already been said, but anything that is really worth saying is worth saying twice (or more). The ‘Christmas story’, which really starts back in Genesis, is so fascinating, especially as you grow older. But, as the saying goes, the more you know, the more you know you don’t know.
And, of course, an ending on a lighter note.
Quotes from the Holiday:
Gideon, during dinner- "It was too good- so I ate it."
Rebekah- (the kids were not expecting anything in their stockings this year... So did not notice their stuffed appearance for a long time) "Mom said we weren't going to get any presents in our stockings..." hand over mouth, "But they're plump!"
Gideon, on, um, Vesuvius? "The volcano is exploding, so they're plugging it up with chicken!" Seriously, what else do you do with mashed potatoes, gravy, and turkey?
I hope you all had as wonderful of a Christmas and New Years as I did... God bless.
