Purpose of the cosmos

In the scheme of things, people have hundreds of reasons for why they do anything, but let's consider one example: why would someone paint a picture?

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Don't make this too difficult.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After all, most good reasons boil down to just one or two which can usually be simplified into something not so complex. Usually you paint a picture because you want to capture something. Capture the way something looks so that others can see it too. In other words, accurately and artistically capture the essence of something in order to show it off to others.

Or maybe show off some skill on the artist's part, humbly of course! =)

Glory, it kind of gets down to that; but who gets the glory? For us, we paint and sketch and randomize to our heart's content, and can do this because God made us to be creative and gave us a LOT of material to work with. I mean, the whole universe for us to try to emulate in our art? But who gets the glory? Us? Somewhat, because talented people have a talent and it's pretty cool. The subject matter? A little, because it is pretty cool usually too.

You hear a lot of singers and artists and writers and whoever saying that they "give all the glory to God" for their respective talents. This might seem a little juvenile, but why does God get the glory? Because the credit for everything belongs to Him, the credit for the physical resources, the people, their talent, and their subject matter.

So, God made a picture (called the cosmos) and what is there after the cosmos besides God? Therefore, all creation sings of the glory and majesty and creativity of our Sovereign God.

The universe is one of the reasons that man cannot claim ignorance to the Creator, even when all have lost the knowledge of God. Christ coming and taking on the body of a created being filled the whole world again with that lost knowledge.

[Romans 1:19-20- Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:]

Creation captures the essence of God, showing Him to us in a tangible, physical way. The same way Christ showed us God in a tangible, physical way. Man, being the crown of creation and in the image of God completes this picture; He wanted to reveal Himself in all His glory to us starting in a terrifically dramatic, Creation-week kind of way.

Ok, that wasn't exactly what I was planning to elaborate on, but oh well.

Actually, maybe I should have taken my own advice and not made the answer to that question so difficult. (why would someone (especially God) paint a picture (like the world)?)

Notice I kept saying things like 'want capture something', 'wanted to reveal Himself', 'want to show us His glory'?

So why would He paint a picture?

Maybe the simple, boiled down, not difficult, non-complex reason for making us is that He wanted to.

And I'm sure glad He did.

Jordan,
This has nothing to do with your post but I have a question. Katrina(who is 9) wants to play the cello. Do you know anything about the cello? How hard it is to play ect. Since you play in a symphony I thought you might have some ideas.
Thanks
Jessica
